On Friday, November 29, the SPVM will present its 2025 budget request to the city finance committee. We invite Montréalers to come tell city council that public funds should be used to meet their needs, not violate their rights.

Tomorrow, the SPVM will announce that it has exceeded its budget by 54 million dollars. For the fifth year in a row, the Montréal police has been allowed to evade budgetary limits by tens of millions of dollars, despite having received a budget increase of 160 million dollars over this same period. In 2025, 824 million dollars of municipal funds will go towards the salaries of SPVM officers. This money will largely serve to finance acts of violence against Montréalers, including systematic violations of their civil and human rights: racial profiling and other forms of racist police violence; the systematic violation of the human rights of unhoused folks, notably through the forced eviction of encampment; and widespread police brutality against protestors, especially those who denounce the complicity of Canadian institutions in the Gaza genocide.

We are of the opinion that our tax dollars should not be used for these violent, authoritarian, and anti-democratic ends, but rather to meet the pressing needs of Montréalers in terms of affordable housing, accessible community services, youth opportunities, public transit and functional infrastructure. Public safety can only come from meeting the needs of all, not from inflicting violence against vulnerable community members.

The administration has hired Israeli-Owned companies Perceptage International and The Moshav Canada to brutalize and surveil the Pro-Palestine Concordia students. Both of these companies are managed and founded by Former and Current IDF officers and soldiers, some serving in the ongoing Genocide in Gaza.

Our administration employs IDF mercenaries. They have not only chosen the side of the Imperialists by fostering connections with weapons companies such as Lockheed Martin, CAE, Pratt&Whitney, Airbus and Bombardier; they now collaborate and fund IDF soldiers DIRECTLY.
