BOOKKEEPER JOB DESCRIPTION
Bookkeeping: maintenance of all general ledger accounts
Management of Accounts Payable and Receivable: including bookkeeping & reconciliation, payments, inquiries, account reconciliation, invoicing
Monthly Bank reconciliations
Monthly income statements for QPIRG
Monthly balance sheet
Monthly report of concerns for QPIRG
Payroll: government forms and remittances including payroll taxes, T4 filing, ROE preparation; TD1 and source deductions forms, CSST declaration, CNT remittance, GST/PST declarations, CO17 T2 (government income/tax reports)
Work with auditors to prepare and execute annual financial audit
Update QPIRG’s books to reflect audit corrections
Act as a resource person for Finance Coordinator
Assist Finance Coordinator with reporting for Annual General Meeting
ROLE AS MEMBER OF FINANCE COMMITTEE
Interpret audited financial statements and advise the board on accepting them
Support Finance Coordinator in advising the finance committee members
Produce cash flow statements, and other financial statements, as needed
Attend and provide explanations/assessments to Finance Committee meetings about once per quarter
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The incoming bookkeeper would be responsible for supporting QPIRG in making the transition from SAGE accounting software to QuickBooks – therefore working familiarity of at least one of these programmes is required (working familiarity with both is preferred).
QPIRG Concordia recognizes experience and skills are acquired in many different ways and not only through formal institutionalized education. People who feel they have the relevant knowledge are encouraged to apply, regardless of if they have formally recognised certification in bookkeeping. People looking to further build their experience and skill are welcome to apply.
HOURS
20 hours per month on average for the first year while working on the transition to new software and bringing books up to date. Approximately 15 hours per month on average after the first year, exact hours to be discussed and altered as needed. The bookkeeper will be able to set their own schedule.
PAY RATE
$30 per hour. Pay rate and total contract hours is negotiable, especially for people with significant experience who may not require the full hours as listed above.
There is the option for the bookkeeper to buy into the health insurance plan.
