The Resource Library Coordinator will work alongside the staff and volunteers at the Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIRG) at Concordia University. This position will concentrate on the development, organization, and outreach of QPIRG Concordia’s Resource Center, an alternative publicly-accessible library of magazines, videos, books and pamphlets covering a broad range of social and environmental justice topics. Tasks include resource cataloguing, resource purchasing, campus and community promotion of the library, volunteer coordination, and providing support to space users wishing to access the library’s resources.
Knowledge and skills required :
– Ability to work independently and with groups
– Working knowledge of French & English
– Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds
– Skills in volunteer recruitment, retention, and coordination
– Proven organizational and time management skills
– Ability to take initiative and work independently
– Very good written and oral communication skills in English and French
– Creative problem-solving skills
– Computer literacy (including Word)
– Commitment to social justice and to QPIRG’s mandate to counter discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, gender, religion, colour, dis/ability, size, and class
Assets:
– Skills in database maintenance
– Budgeting and financial management experience
– Knowledge of local social justice milleu
– Volunteering experience and/or working within a volunteer organization
– Knowledge of other languages, including sign languages
– Experience working in a Mac environment
– Skills in MS Word, Adobe Photoshop
– Web design skills (in particular a working knowledge of WordPress)
Duties:
– Work with QPIRG staff and volunteers to identify gaps in the QPIRG Resource Center (e.g. French language materials, materials on issues faced by students with disabilities, etc.)
– Work with committee of volunteers to research and order new materials (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, etc.)
– Recruit and work with volunteers for Resource Center committee
– Budget for purchasing of new materials
– Maintain database to catalogue Resource Centre materials
– Train volunteers in data entry and database maintenance
– Maintain a user-friendly and accessible system for borrowing and returning materials
– Organize training sessions for QPIRG staff and volunteers on efficient use of the system
– Develop strategy to publicize Resource Center to Concordia students and the broader community

Event & Volunteer Assistant

The Event & Volunteer Assistant will work alongside the staff at the Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIRG) at Concordia University. This position will concentrate on the promotion of QPIRG events and projects to the campus, and to the wider Montreal community. Outreach efforts include, but are not limited to, classroom talks, postering, flyering, tabling, and web outreach. This position will also focus on the recruitment and organization of QPIRG Concordia volunteers.

– Ability to work independently and with groups- Computer literacy (including Word)
– Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds
– Skills in volunteer recruitment, retention, and coordination

Duties:
– General outreach to students and community members
– Assist in the coordination of event organizing and volunteer management
– Recruit and work with volunteers in a outreach and promotions committee
– Work with QPIRG staff to design and develop (event) programming according to QPIRG’s mandate of building links between students and community activism
– Work with QPIRG staff and volunteers to execute programming initiatives
– Work with QPIRG staff to develop and implement outreach strategies for events and collaborations
– Facilitate communication between QPIRG and its volunteers, coordinate volunteer schedules and tasks
– Train and work alongside volunteers to enable them to effectivelyparticipate in QPIRG programming
– Work with teams of volunteers (working groups) to co-organize and implement programming initiatives
– Work with QPIRG staff to research and apply to campus project funding sources
