The People's Potato is a vegan soup kitchen run out of Concordia University. The project was initiated in 1999 in order to address student poverty. The student population at Concordia is typically in debt, and has little access to nourishing organic and local foods. Our soup kitchen emphasizes serving well cooked, wholesome foods.

At the start, a group of dedicated students started cooking in a church basement and carried the food to the university. Since then, the project has expanded, and we now serve over five hundred students and community members daily from our kitchen on the 7th floor of the Hall building at Concordia.

We are committed not only to serving food to hungry students, but to broader goals of social justice and environmental sustainability.

We are a fee levy group and receive 37 cents per undergraduate credit. Throughout the academic year we also apply for different grants such as for work-study and the sustainable action fund. We also have a donation box.

Project description: Queer McGill has operated at McGill in various forms since the early 1970’s, and has played its own particular role in queer history. Being able to access and reflect on this aspect of our local queer history would be incredibly meaningful to present and future generations of queers and activists.

Project description: There is a controversy surrounding the number of Indigenous women who have gone missing or been murderd since 1980, and we need research done to bring light to which figure is closest to the correct one.  The Native Women´s Association of Canada and the police use the number 521, whereas Walk4Justice organizers and others use a number anywhere between 1,500 to 3,000.   Missing Justice does not feel comfortable using either figure until more in-depth research is done into the numbers being used. It would also be important to gather whatever information there is about before 1980, as there is a great lack of data previous to that date.  This would not inform the numbers question so much as provide a background to the current situation.   The issue of non-status Native women, metis women and other unofficially Indigenous women is also of concern: are they counted and if so, how, and is the methodology used in counting them consistent?  If they are not consistent, can you explain in detail the inconsistencies?

Actif depuis plus de 25 ans, et comptant à ce jour près de 80 groupes et coalitions membres, le RQGE est un outil de réseautage pour les organismes intéressés à la protection de l'environnement et à l'émergence d'une société écologique.

Créateur d'espaces de discussion et d'action, le RQGE revendique une reconnaissance concrète du mouvement environnemental pour ses apports à la protection du patrimoine naturel, la santé publique et au mieux-être de la société québécoise.

L'émergence d'une société écologique ne peut se faire sans modifications profondes des plusieurs sphères notamment la sphère économique.

Les questions de développement économique régional et de création d'emploi sont constamment placées en opposition aux soucis environnementaux. Est-ce irréconciliable? Qui tire son épingle du jeu dans cette opposition ? Y-a-t-il sur-simplification ? Y-a-t-il des cas où les enjeux en cause se sont configurés autrement? L'analyse est-elle la même à courte et à longue échéance ? Quelles ont été les stratégies déployées pour tenter de rompre avec cette dynamique ? Ont-elles fonctionné ? Pourquoi ?

Nous espérons qu'une analyse à caveur sociologique contribue à la réflexion à ce propos et aident les groupes à ajuster leurs discours et stratégies s'il y a lieu.

Les enjeux environnementaux ont pris beaucoup d’espace sur la place publique, mais cela n’a pas toujours été le cas. Devant les défis qui se posent, il nous apparaît important de comprendre ce qui a mené aux victoires, ou aux échecs, dans le passé, et de réfléchir aux leçons à en tirer tout en prenant conscience des nouveautés contextuelles.

Quels ont été les grandes luttes ? Quelles stratégies ont été employées ? Avec quel succès? Était-ce une question de contexte ? Quelles leçons tirer ?

Comment situer l’émergence de structures étatiques à saveur environnementale (concertation) ? Les firmes d’éco-conseil ? Les ONG liées aux corporations ? 

Nous possédons des archives mais il faudra compléter, effectuer des entrevues et des recherches dans d’autres archives.
