QPIRG Concordia is Hiring a Working Group and Programming /Campaigns Coordinator

The Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIRG) Concordia is a student-funded, non-profit organization that strives to: research, raise awareness of, and motivate action o­n diverse grassroots social and environmental justice issues; make campus-community links; and inspire sustainable change through fun, inclusive, and non-hierarchical methods. We are presently seeking a new full-time coordinator to work alongside our two other full-time coordinators.

Board and Staff Relations
Legal Relations

Sole Responsibilities:
Working Group Coordination
Programming and Campaigns
Requirements:

• At least a year of experience (paid or volunteer) in community organizing / community activism

• Extensive experience programming events and running campaigns

• Experience with event publicity and outreach

• Ability to collaborate with campus and community groups o­n current campaigns pertinent to QPIRG

• Ability to work with a broad range of people and political perspectives

• Ability to work autonomously and work non-hierarchically in groups

• Experience with consensus decision-making

• Commitment to social change, and to QPIRG’s mandate to fight all forms of oppression

• Bilingual in oral French and English

• Computer literacy

• Understanding of organizational process

• Anti-oppression analysis and proficiency in applying this to all levels of decision-making

• Strong knowledge of political, social, economic and environmental issues

• Ability to support and organize with both volunteers and staff

• Ability to work occasional irregular hours

• Ability to problem-solve and prioritize tasks in a chaotic work environment

Assets:

• Experience with volunteer coordination or volunteer development skills

• Experience in non-profit sector

• Experience in student organizing

• Knowledge of Montreal community groups

• Familiarity with PIRGs

• Experience developing organizational policy

• Experience with budgeting

• Knowledge of languages other than English and French, including sign languages

• Familiarity with Concordia university systems and the campus milieu

• Bilingual in written French and English

• Comfort and Experience with public speaking

Contract duration:
This is a two-year renewable contract, beginning in late September, 2008. 

Salary: 
Starting salary is $17.72/hr for 28 hours a week (including some evening and weekend work) including 3 weeks of paid vacation and health benefits.
