http://centre2110.org/:::::ABOUT LAL:::::LAL is a collective of musicians representing Uganda, Bangladesh, Barbados, and India featuring vocalist and activist Rosina Kazi, laptop musician, Nicholas Murray, bassist Ian de Sousa, and touring percussionist Rakesh Tewari. With a strong belief in the link between art and social change, the group has developed their own unique sound. LAL brings you their 3rd and most impressive album, by weaving their distinct sound with lyrically and socially conscious poetry.
Rosina Kazi says "The new record is called 'Deportation' and it was creatively triggered by 9/11 and it's affects, the deportation of Queen Nzinga [an artist and activist who was deported to Costa Rica on International Women's Day in Toronto in 2004], and many others, Project Threadbare [a campaign to stop the deportation of 24 Pakistani men due to racist immigration and national security measures], our experiences as migrant peoples, our travels, and those we've met along the way, our thoughts & spirits as individuals and communities. We are grateful for the opportunity to make music that speaks to issues of social justice."
