QPIRG is celebrating 25 years of campus and community social environmental justice organizing at Concordia, so come dress up/down, win prizes, loot bags, eat cake and dance with us!

We’ve changed and grown a lot in the last 25 years and now we want to take a moment and celebrate our accomplishments and how much we’ve evolved in the last quarter century:

- We’ve grown from a mainly environmental student club, to a social and environmental justice organizing centre with strong links to community groups and issues!

- We now have 16 active working, solidarity, and affiliate groups (to see a complete list check our website – qpirgconcordia.org)!

- Some of our working groups have grown up to be some of your other favourite on- and off-campus groups such as the People’s Potato, The Sustainable Concordia Project, Right to Move, Le Frigo Vert, and Santropol Roulant!

- We’ve moved from a tiny office space, with only a few computers, to a large, fully equipped resource centre, with phone, fax, photocopier, computers, meeting spaces, and a resource library!

- We’ve become the place where your social-justice-based student initiatives are realized!

QPIRG Concordia invites all the people that believe in what we do and in the student and community initiatives that we support, and all the people that want to learn more about QPIRG and all those who have been affected by the projects and initiatives of QPIRG over the last 25 years to come join us for our 25th birthday and celebrate with us the strength of our communities and support the people of Six Nations’ right to dignity and self-determination!!

Six Nations Background:

February 28th, 2007 marked the one-year anniversary of the Six Nations Land Reclamation. One year ago, a group of people from Six Nations took back a piece of their land that was under construction by developers and demanded an end to the destruction of their land and to settler encroachment on their territory.

Now, one year later, the Canadian government has yet to recognize the truth: that this land is not owned by them nor can it be sold by them. It is Haudonausaunee (Iroquois) territory, stolen and sold by the colonial authorities illegally.

The monthly cost of maintaining the blockade camp over the winter months totals $19,000. This is for fuel to keep the generators going, a snow blower, food, clothing, supplies, etc. A further $10,000 is needed to retain a team of lawyers to defend Onkwehonwe people (indigenous people) who are facing criminal charges for participating in this action.
